Cutting line with horizontal and vertical bandknife

Fecken-Kirfel has developed an extremely flexible contour cutting center that combines not only the possibilities of the proven horizontal and vertical contour cutting machines C 67 and F 62 but opens up in addition further application fields. On a length of about 9 m the compact CF 67 offers all the functions of a cutting center that so far could only be realized with a whole range of machines being installed one behind the other.

So far, shaped foam parts were manufactured either on a vertical or a horizontal contour cutting center. Mattresses are mostly cut out of a big foam block by means of a machine with an endless horizontal bandknife that can be rotated round itself by for example +/- 360°. Flat parts that are mostly needed in the furniture industry (e.g. seating cushions) are premanufactured on a horizontal splitting machine that creates a stack of slabs. Afterwards the stack is transported to a vertical contour cutting machine where it is being processed to shaped parts.

Combined horizontal and vertical CNC Contour Cutting Center

The new contour cutting center CF 67 can be used as horizontal machine for one order and as vertical machine for another order. Also it is possible to do contour cuts on the CF 67 that cannot be done on a turntable machine due to their shape as the material block would become unstable during cutting. Moreover, by means of its new and patented stacking system the CF 67 separates the material in partial blocks or stacks of slabs to be further processed on the vertical or on the horizontal part of the machine.

For this kind of application, there are solutions on the market with machines being installed one behind the other, starting with horizontal contour cuts followed by vertical contour cuts. Conveyors between the single machines move the blocks resp. the prepared material stacks. Yet every transport may shift the material resulting in unprecise cuts. Due to its compact design, transport of the cut material is avoided on the new CF 67.

A common control of the two machine parts allows for the preparation of new cutting orders while the other part of the machine is still cutting the current job. Moreover, the automatic switching between the machine parts for combined jobs guarantees maximum flexibility and easy operation. Of course all well-known software features of the Fecken-Kirfel contour cutting machines are available for the CF 67 as well. Besides the useful Teleservice as well as the network connection of the machine to a separate order preparation computer is part of the usual Fecken-Kirfel offer.

1.     Horizontal contour cutting

Mattress manufacturing and all other application fields of the horizontal C 67 are guaranteed on the new CF 67 in the usual quality. The front cutting unit of the CF 67 is designed exactly as on the C 67. Cutting speed and quality are identical with the C 67. To support the knife, the automatic movable center knife guidance known from the C 67 is included in the CF 67 as well. A roll hold-down device stabilizes the material during cutting.

2.     Vertical contour cutting

The back part of the CF 67 includes the proven cutting unit of the vertical contour cutting machine F 62 that can be supplied with a variety of additional equipment such as roll hold-down device, knife guidance adjustable down to the height of the upper border of the material, lateral guidings, etc. This guarantees that the vertical part of the CF 67 covers all applications of the F 62 in the usual quality.

3.     Stacking device

If partial blocks or stacks of slabs must be separated from the block before being further processed, manual interventions or complicated additional equipment for the horizontal cutting machines were needed so far. With the stacking system being integrated in the CF 67 and its patented procedure it is possible to automatically remove the remnant block out of the machine after a horizontal separating or stacking cut. The upper part of the material can be further processed on both parts of the machine. This way it is possible to do vertical cuts on one part of the material block without having to cut the whole block. This results in a reduction of material waste and in an increase of flexibility.

4.     Combined three-dimensional contour cutting

Three-dimensional contour parts that up to now could not be cut on a horizontal contour cutting machine with turntable can be created without a problem on the new CF 67. In special applications the block could become unstable during cutting due to the positioning and situation of the parts. On the CF 67 processing is turned by 90° and the block remains stable on the machine. Particularly stretched contour parts that need contour cuts on the long sides must be manufactured upright on a turntable machine. Yet on the CF 67 these parts can be processed lying giving a far more stable position of the parts in the block.

Several customers who already test the CF 67 in practice are very enthusiastic about the possibilities it offers and state that in particular the high flexibility of this two-in-one machine with only one control offers possibilities they would not have imagined before. The innovative concept of this machine proves that besides continued improvements regarding cutting accuracy and speed, Fecken-Kirfel also offers totally new approaches in the field of contour cutting by advanced concepts.
